Wheelchair-adapted homes at Pearl Yard
Pearl Yard must include wheelchair-adapted homes and market them to wheelchair users for at least 18 months before letting to others. We help you register your interest so the developer can meet that requirement and you do not miss out.
What is included
Purpose-built for wheelchair users
The Pearl Yard Section 106 Deed sets minimum specifications for Social Rented wheelchair units. Every wheelchair home must include:
- Adjustable-height hand wash basins
- Two lifts where wheelchair-user homes are above ground floor
- Corridor widths at least 1,200mm
- Window handles at 450 to 1,200mm range
- Wall-fitted shower seat with drop-down legs and arms
- Side-hinged oven
- Accessible storage with drop-down shelving and pull-out baskets
- Clear open doorways at least 900mm
- Living rooms, bathrooms and kitchens exceeding Building Regulations minimum space standards
- 600mm x 600mm wheelchair-accessible work top in kitchen
- Ramps no steeper than 1:20
- Entry phones allowing access to communal area and private front door

Under Schedule 12 of the Pearl Yard Section 106 Deed (2024), the developer must market wheelchair homes for at least 18 months (of which at least 9 months from Practical Completion) on accessible-property.org.uk, thehouseshop.com, habinteg.org.uk, the Homes for Londoners website, and in local Borough newspapers. The developer cannot let a wheelchair unit to a non-wheelchair user until a marketing report has been submitted to and approved by the Council. Registering here puts you on the platform's interest register so the developer can identify you as a prospective tenant.
