Description
A Level 3 Surveying Technician apprenticeship provides an excellent entry route into the surveying profession. Working under the supervision of qualified surveyors, you will support the collection, analysis, and reporting of information relating to land, buildings, and construction projects.
Surveying Technicians work in a variety of disciplines, including:
Building Surveying
Commercial Property
Residential Property
Land Surveying (including rural, minerals, waste, and planning)
Valuation
Quantity Surveying (Consultant/Professional)
Project Management (Consultant/Professional)
This apprenticeship combines practical work with study, giving you real experience across the property and construction sector while working toward a nationally recognised qualification.
Key Responsibilities
As a Surveying Technician apprentice, your duties may include:
Carrying out site visits to inspect buildings, land, or construction projects
Taking measurements and recording accurate data from surveys, site plans, or digital sources
Assisting senior surveyors with reports, valuations, costings, and technical assessments
Meeting clients, contractors, or other professionals to exchange information
Supporting the preparation of drawings, plans, schedules, and project documentation
Collecting and managing data for use in valuations, cost planning, land referencing, or condition reports
Helping ensure compliance with health and safety standards
Organising and prioritising work tasks to meet project timelines
Contributing to project research, analysis, and decision-making
What You’ll Learn
The apprenticeship develops the foundation knowledge and skills required to progress within the surveying profession. Training will cover:

Understanding the English legal system and the basics of contract and tort law.

Measurement principles, accuracy, confidentiality, and data management.

Awareness of how property and construction markets operate.
Health & Safety
Legal responsibilities, codes of practice, and safe working practices.

How economic, environmental, and social objectives influence land and property decisions.
Construction Technology
Materials and methods used in low-rise building construction.

Time management, communication, negotiation, and professional conduct.
Skills You Will Develop
Carrying out accurate surveys and measurements
Recording and presenting technical data

Assisting with valuations, cost analysis, and project documentation

Entry Requirements
Employers typically require:
GCSEs (Maths and English preferred)
An interest in construction, property, geography, or project management

Progression
Upon completion, apprentices may progress to:
Assistant Surveyor roles
Level 4 or Level 6 surveying apprenticeships
Professional qualification routes with RICS, CICES, or other recognised bodies
