Traffic Marshal

Job Requirements

• Hold a current Banksman/Traffic Marshal CSCS competency card

• Be hard working, reliable and punctual

• Patience and the ability to remain calm but forceful during stressful situations

• Knowledge of Public safety and security

• Good communication skills are required to ensure tasks are carried out safely in accordance with the written safe method of work documents (RAMS – Risk Assessments and Method Statements) produced by the site management.

• Be able to work alone on your own initiative or as part of a Team.

Main duties

• Have an understanding of the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as a Traffic Marshal

• Directing the movement of vehicles on site and re-introduce safely onto the Public highway

• Identify areas of danger within the site

• Managing on-site traffic systems

• Guide drivers and make sure reversing areas are free of pedestrians.

• Providing clear, correct, and safe directions to plant operators/drivers

• Communicating with drivers and plant operators verbally and by radio and/or industry standard hand signals

• Understanding risks (e.g., blind spots) and how to manage these effectively

• Safeguarding pedestrians where vehicles may be reversing

• Managing traffic to avoid excessive queuing

• Minimising possible risks to personnel and equipment

• Assisting on site with general duties when not carry out banksman duties

• Assisting with vehicle movements for loading and unloading vehicles or cranes
