Who is the SMSTS suitable for?

The SMSTS course is for managers, supervisors, business owners, and clients within the construction industry seeking developmental knowledge and skills in health and safety from a managerial perspective. The course is very interactive, involving both group and individual work.

The dates are as below:

Day 1: Thursday 23rd January
Day 2: Friday 24th January
Day 3: Saturday 25th January
Day 4: Friday 31st January
Day 5: Saturday 1st February

£450.00 + vat.

Course Content

The SMSTS course involves:

• Health and Safety including - responsibilities, duties, enforcements
• Construction legislation
• Accident causes, prevention, investigation and report requirements
• Risk assessments
• Communication
• Safety management systems
• Management of sub contractors
• Awareness of human error
• Recognition of an organisation's duties and responsibilities
• Recognition of responsibilities of Managers, Supervisors and Operatives
• Production of site activity instructions (safe system of work)
• Planning for health and safety within the context of a project.

How long is the course

The Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) is a 5-day course.

Teaching and Assessment

The SMSTS is a very interactive course, the tutor teaches through classroom discussions, case studies, teamwork and individual/group presentations. There is also some work that may need to be completed outside of the classroom.

A part of the SMSTS training course content will require candidates to present their understanding of how to comply with current legislation for assessment;

Candidates will be continuously assessed during the SMSTS training course in preparation for the final multiple choice examination.

Certification

On completion of the SMSTS course the candidate will be awarded a Construction Site Manager’s Safety Certificate valid for five years. Candidate must also pass the four core exercises, case study exercise and examination.

The candidate will need to undertake a refresher course prior to the expiry date on the certificate to gain another 5 year certificate.

The certificate is valid for 5 years. 

Mandatory Entry Requirements

The candidate must be able to read, write and understand English at a good level.

If the candidate needs to re-sit the test, they must do this within 90 days of the original course date (at an additional cost)

The candidate must provide a valid ID on the first day of the course, a copy of passport or driving licence will be sufficient.
